Pollen

Pollen

For many people pollen can have a severe effect on their ability to function normally during allergy season.  People allergic to pollen can have, scratchy and sore throat, runny nose, irritated eye, difficulty breathing or other respiratory illnesses.

I mention season because pollen is often a plant’s only way to reproduce.  Plants that not only include your garden plants but trees, weeds, grasses and the vegetable garden your neighbor has planted.  Pollen can be carried in the wind a few feet or miles in the form of dust clouds.  While it’s true that for most allergy sufferers that Spring can be the season with the highest concentration of different types of pollen in the air, plants are all different and produced pollen anytime of the year, including the Winter.

Many communities track pollen level daily so we can prepare for high pollen days by closing doors or running an air purifier specifically designed to eliminate the pollen in a homes or building effectively.
